How to choose
- Beach and swimming: the south, which is drier and sunnier; the north is greener, with moisture and cloud pushed in by the trade winds. See where to stay in Tenerife.
- Teide: it is much colder at altitude in every season, so bring a jacket. The cable car's hours change by season (9:00 to 17:00 from 25 October to 31 December, to 18:40 in July to September) and wind can stop it. See Teide tours.
- Whales and dolphins: pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins live off the island all year; other species are seasonal. See whale watching and boat trips.
- Parks: in November Siam Park showed 10:00 to 17:00 and Loro Parque 9:30 to 17:30, so days are shorter than in summer.
- Crowds: European school holidays (July and August, Christmas, Easter) are busier, so book tickets and excursions earlier then.
Typical mistakes
- Packing only beachwear for a Teide day.
- Assuming the north has the same weather as the south on the same day.
- Planning the cable car without a margin for wind, with no backup day.
