Tips

  • The tourist board lists the beaches of Playa de San Juan and Playa de Abama and natural pools along the coast, which are less crowded than other southern beaches; swimming in the volcanic pools should be done with caution. For hiking, the PR-TF 70 route from Guia de Isora to Tagara and Boca Tauce takes about 3 hours at medium difficulty, with a steady climb past vineyards, old ovens and threshing floors. There is a picnic area at Chio, among the pines of the Corona Forestal, with water, grills, tables and benches, and a permanent display of work by the painter Manuel Martin Gonzalez in the town. Dates of the patron saint and neighbourhood fiestas vary, so check before visiting. Our guides to Playa de San Juan, Los Gigantes and Tenerife hiking tours cover the neighbouring options.

How to get there

By car, Guia de Isora is on the TF-1, about 90 km (roughly 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes) from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and about 35 km (30 to 40 minutes) from Tenerife South airport; Tenerife North is about 95 km away. Several TITSA bus lines serve the municipality, though journeys are longer.
