The Los Gigantes cliffs rise up to 600 metres almost straight out of the Atlantic on the west coast of Tenerife, part of the Teno Rural Park (Tenerife tourist board, read 7 November 2026). The resort at their foot, together with Puerto de Santiago, has a marina, a Blue Flag black-sand beach and the island's main departure point for whale and dolphin cruises. The sea below the cliffs is about 30 metres deep, which is part of why divers and anglers come.
Highlights

The cliffs from the sea
A boat trip is described by the tourist board as one of the best ways to appreciate their height. A well-reviewed option is the Los Gigantes dolphin and whale cruise with a swim stop on GetYourGuide, rated 4.7 out of 5 from 5,881 reviews, from 25 euros (read 26 October 2026).
La Arena beach
Black volcanic sand, 140 m long and 40 m wide, with calm water. It has flown the Blue Flag for 27 years and has toilets, showers, sun loungers for hire, a diving area and disabled access. The address is Avenida Marítima, Puerto de Santiago.
Los Guíos
A small beach next to the port with views of the cliffs. The tourist board advises checking the sea conditions before swimming in the small natural pools.
Viewpoints
The best views from land are from Puerto de Santiago, especially the Archipengue viewpoint, and from the Punta de Teno viewpoint.
Walks
PR-TF 65 runs from Santiago del Teide to Puerto de Santiago (8 km, intermediate); SL-TF 60 is 9 km and takes about four hours.
Practical info
Tips
- Two guides cover what to do from the harbour: Los Gigantes boat trip and whale watching in Tenerife. Masca, the village in the gorge just to the north, is covered in Masca, Tenerife. The tourist board notes national and international rules that protect pilot whales and dolphins, so choose an operator that follows them.
How to get there
From Costa Adeje it is about 30 to 40 minutes by car, and from Tenerife South airport (about 45 km) 35 to 45 minutes. TITSA bus 325 runs from Puerto de la Cruz to Los Gigantes, 462 from Guía de Isora and 460 from Icod de los Vinos to Costa Adeje.
