Bodegas Monje
The winery is at Camino Cruz de Leandro 36, 38359 El Sauzal, in the area called La Hollera, overlooking Teide. The Tenerife tourist board describes the vineyard as sitting at about 500 metres above sea level on rocky ground with dry lava. According to the winery's own site the Monje family has been making wine since 1750; it produces red, white and rosé wines and combines oak barrels with modern maceration systems.
Guided tours run at 11:00, 13:00 and 16:00 every day, and the winery and shop are open from 10:00 to 19:00 every day. The site lists tasting formats (tastings, wine and food tastings, private wine tastings, pairings) as well as a restaurant and terrace, a wine club and a natural fabric dyeing activity. The winery visit and tasting ticket is in the booking box on this page; you can also contact the winery on +34 922 58 50 27 or [email protected].
Casa del Vino
The Casa del Vino is at C/ San Simón 49, El Sauzal, in a Canarian hacienda from the 17th century. It belongs to the Cabildo de Tenerife and is managed by the Tenerife Rural Foundation. Inside are the Island Museum of Vine and Wine, a honey museum, an agrobiodiversity interpretation centre, a vineyard garden and a native plants garden (tours are offered), and a traditional wine press in the central courtyard.
The tasting room serves wines from the five Tenerife protected designations of origin and the Canary Islands one, with local products such as honey, cheeses, roast leg and mojo sauces. There is a shop, a restaurant and two car parks. Entry to the Casa del Vino is free, according to its own site (read 7 November 2026); tastings are booked in advance on the website or on +34 922 57 25 35, and its workshops are priced separately. Its opening hours sit on the contact page of casadelvinotenerife.com.
The wine areas
The tourist board names two regions in its wineries listing: Tacoronte-Acentejo in the north, and the Güímar valley in the south-east. The nine wineries it lists are:
- Bodega El Cercado, a small renovated house in Tacoronte with an organic farm.
- Bodega El Lomo, in Tegueste, with panoramic views.
- Bodegas Altos de Trevejos, high-altitude wines with a volcanic character.
- Bodegas Ferrera, on the Finca Las Vigas estate at about 1,000 m, bought by the Ferrera family in the 1940s.
- Bodegas Insulares de Tenerife, a cellar with 660 vine-growing partners in Tacoronte-Acentejo.
- Bodegas Monje, in El Sauzal.
- Caña y Ron, a company built around the island's historic sugar cane.
- Valle de Güímar Regional Winery, selling under the brands Brumas de Ayosa and Pico Cho Marcial.
- Viñátigo, in La Guancha, with five generations of family winemaking.
Our pages on El Sauzal and La Orotava cover the towns nearest to this circuit.
Guachinches
The board explains that guachinches are informal, family-run places, many of them in wineries, serving home cooking and their own wine at modest prices, mainly in the north. Some open only temporarily during summer patron saint festivities, so an address you were given may be closed.
Mistakes to avoid
- Turning up for a tasting at the Casa del Vino without booking: its site recommends booking tastings in advance online.
- Looking for these wineries near Costa Adeje: the board's list is in the north and the Güímar valley.
- Picking a tour time at Bodegas Monje that the daily schedule does not offer: the tours are at 11:00, 13:00 and 16:00.
- Treating guachinches as permanent: some open only during summer patron saint festivities.
