La Tejita is a 1,000 m beach in El Médano, beside the Montaña Roja volcanic cone, where the sand is described by the tourist board as black and vehicles cannot reach the shore because the area is a protected natural area (Tenerife tourist board, read 7 November 2026). You park along the Médano to Los Abrigos road, where there are more than 100 spaces, and walk about five minutes on a footpath. There are bins, a cleaning service and sun loungers for hire, but no disabled access, and nudists are welcome. Choose it for space and scenery; choose the town beach for services.
Highlights

Montaña Roja at the end of the sand
The beach lies beside the volcanic cone, which the tourist board names as the landmark of El Médano. The beach is 1,000 m long and 33 m wide, and the tourist board classes it as an isolated beach.
The protected area
Because the area is a protected natural area, cars cannot drive to the sand. The footpath from the parking along the Médano to Los Abrigos road takes about five minutes.
Sun loungers and bins
These are the facilities the tourist board lists: waste bins, a municipal cleaning service and sun loungers for hire. There is no toilet or shower listed on the beach page, unlike on El Médano beach.
El Médano beach
The town beach is 750 m long and 43 m wide, with fine grey sand, showers, toilets, bars, restaurants, a windsurfing area and a Blue Flag. It is the choice for services and for lessons in wind sports.

Tips
- Plan the day around what the tourist board lists. Bring what the beach does not offer, because the beach page lists no showers, toilets or bars on the sand; El Médano town, with cafés and restaurants on the promenade, is the place to eat. The tourist board says the section of El Médano beach nearest the town has gentler waves, while the far section is the main area for windsurfing and kitesurfing. If you plan to sleep in this corner of the island, see where to stay in El Médano. For other beaches, see the best beaches in Tenerife and Tenerife black sand beaches. Rooms in El Médano are in the Booking box.
How to get there
On foot from the parking along the Médano to Los Abrigos road (TF-643), which has more than 100 spaces; the footpath takes about five minutes. The tourist board lists an inter-city bus service. There is no disabled access.
