El Médano is a seaside town in Granadilla de Abona, in the south of Tenerife, built around a Blue Flag beach that the tourist board describes as 750 m long and 43 m wide, with fine grey sand and views of the volcanic cone of Montaña Roja (read 7 November 2026). It is the island's wind-sports town: the same board page says the beach has hosted World Windsurfing and Kitesurfing Championships,.
Highlights

The main beach
An urban beach on Paseo Amalia with toilets, showers, bars and restaurants, sun loungers and parasols for hire, a tourist information point and a windsurfing area. Disabled access is available.
The two ends of the beach
The section nearest the town has gentler waves and suits families; the section furthest from town is the best place for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Montaña Roja beach
A small bay beside Montaña Roja, sheltered from wind and waves.
The promenade
Surf shops, restaurants and cafés line it.
Wind sports and surf
The tourist board puts the island's windsurfing at about 300 windy days a year, and lists Wind Center Playa Surf in El Médano for windsurfing, wingfoil, surfing and paddle surfing. The surf spot El Cabezo in Granadilla de Abona is rated for summer and intermediate level.

Tips
- For a stay here instead of a big resort, read where to stay in El Médano. The next beach along, La Tejita, is covered on its own page. The board says the most powerful waves break in the north and north-west of the island and that the south and south-west are more gentle.
How to get there
Address: Paseo Amalia 5, 38612 El Médano. You can walk to the beach from the town centre, an inter-city bus serves the town, and there are more than 100 parking spaces at the beach.
