First check your time in port

The Port of Tenerife publishes the calls for November 2026 in an official table showing arrival, departure and berth; for example, Mein Schiff 7 is listed at Santa Cruz de Tenerife on 8 November. Your time ashore is the gap between arrival and departure minus the time you need to be back on board, so the table tells you whether a 3-hour walk or an up-to-5-hour excursion fits. A trip described as up to five hours needs a stay that is comfortably longer than that.

The walking tour

Carnival's Santa Cruz Walking Tour is a guided walk of three hours. The route listed runs through Plaza de España, the Concepción area, the Nuestra Señora de África market, Weyler square and García Sanabria park. The operator warns that the walking is substantial on uneven ground and excludes people with mobility difficulties or heart problems. Prices shown in 2026 start at $79.99 for an adult from 13 years and $74.99 for a child up to 12.

It suits a traveller who wants the city itself. For the same sights on your own, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife page lists what is in the centre.

The Teide trip

Shore2Shore's Teide visit is a bus tour with a guide for up to five hours, from €30 per person in 2026. The route goes up to Teide by La Esperanza and La Tarta, then stops at Roques de García and Corral del Niño. Meals and refreshments are not included. A guide with a Shore2Shore sign meets the ship's arrival at the port of Santa Cruz, and the trip returns to the port at the end. The operator does not recommend it for people with reduced mobility, wheelchair users or families with strollers, and it says the route can change with traffic.

It is the choice for someone who has come for the volcano. If you plan to return to Teide on a later holiday, the Teide National Park page and the Mount Teide tours guide explain the other ways to go.

A shorter, flatter option

If the weather or your legs make a long walk unappealing, the Palmetum is a botanical garden of 12 hectares on the seafront of Santa Cruz, open daily from 10:00 to 18:00 with last entry at 17:00, with an adult ticket of 6 euros (palmetumtenerife.es, read 7 November 2026). It is about 2 km on foot from the city centre along Avenida Marítima, and tram line 1 stops at the Intercambiador. The ticket is available through Tiqets in the box on this page. We list it as the closest ticketed activity for a port day: it is in the city and needs no excursion transport. See the Palmetum page for the details.

Choosing

  • Short stay in port: the 3-hour walk, or the Palmetum on your own.
  • Long stay, volcano wanted: the Teide bus, up to 5 hours.
  • Mobility limits: neither organised option is recommended for people with reduced mobility, so a visit to the Palmetum is the nearer alternative.
  • Travelling with a stroller: Shore2Shore does not recommend its trip for families with strollers.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Booking an excursion longer than your stop: compare its length with the departure time in the port's table.
  • Assuming the Teide route is fixed: Shore2Shore can change it with traffic.
  • Counting on lunch: meals and refreshments are not included on the Teide trip.
  • Choosing the walk with heart or mobility problems: Carnival excludes them.
