Teide Cable Car: Tickets, Summit Permit and Walks

Updated on November 7, 2026

The Teide cable car climbs from 2,356 m to the La Rambleta station at 3,555 m in about 8 minutes, and tickets are sold only online at the operator's site (Tenerife tourist board and volcanoteide.com, read 7 November 2026). The cable car does not take you to the summit: the last stretch to the crater is a separate path that needs its own free permit, requested in advance at tenerifeon.es. Without the permit you can still ride up and walk to the Pico Viejo viewpoint.

Highlights

The ride to La Rambleta

The ride to La Rambleta

The cable car runs entirely on renewable energy according to the operator, and the bottom station has a bar and a buffet restaurant. The address is the TF-21, km 40.2, Teide National Park.

The Pico Viejo viewpoint

A free trail of about 30 minutes from La Rambleta, with no reservation, leads to a viewpoint over a crater 800 m wide.

The Telesforo Bravo path to the crater

A short and steep route of 0.69 km, about 45 minutes, with slopes of up to 60 percent. It is restricted and can only be walked with a reservation made on Tenerife ON, valid only for the day and time slot you choose.

The guided option

Tiqets lists Mount Teide: Guided Tour, Summit Hike + Cable Car, rated 4.3 out of 5 from 31 reviews (read 7 November 2026). A guided ascent is the simplest route if you want the crater and do not want to deal with the permit yourself.

Practical info

Tips

  • Book the cable car online and early: places are limited and sales are online only. The operator allows free changes or cancellations until 6:00 pm on the day before the reserved date, so you can keep a slot while you watch the forecast. Apply for the summit permit one to two months ahead, as demand is high. On foot, the Montaña Blanca to La Rambleta route is 8.2 km and takes about 5 hours 30 minutes, and it is rated difficult. Plan about 2 hours at the top when the cable car runs and about 4 hours if you walk, climb and return on foot. The tourist board does not recommend the ascent for children under three or for people with certain heart conditions. Cars can only reach the base station; there is no road to the peak. For tours with a driver, see Mount Teide tours, and for the surrounding park Teide National Park.

How to get there

By car on the TF-21 to the base station. Bus 348 runs from Puerto de la Cruz and bus 342 from Costa Adeje to the park.

Opening hours

Best: All year
